Senior Home Schooling Program

Excellence Through NIOS Education
At Brainiacs, our Senior School programme provides flexible, high-quality education for learners completing Grades 9–12 through the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) system. NIOS is a government-recognised board that offers an open learning framework, enabling students to study at their own pace while still earning nationally valid certification.
The NIOS system was created to make education accessible to a diverse range of learners, offering flexibility in subjects, schedules, and assessment methods. Over the years, it has evolved into a fully recognised alternative to conventional schooling, allowing students to pursue their academic goals with freedom, personalised support, and structured guidance.
Through this programme, Brainiacs students gain the academic knowledge, practical skills, and critical thinking abilities needed for higher education and beyond, while benefiting from our mentorship-driven approach that ensures each learner stays motivated and supported throughout their journey.
History & Mission
In November 1989, the Ministry of Education (MOE), Government of India, established the National Open School (NOS), merging it with the earlier CBSE pilot project. In July 2002, it was renamed the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS).
Its mission is to provide flexible, continuing education at the school level through an open learning system, offering an alternative pathway to formal schooling.
- Expand access to education for all learners
- Promote equity and social inclusion
- Foster a culture of lifelong learning across society
Global Reach
NIOS operates through five central departments, 23 regional centres, two sub-regional centres, two NIOS Cells, and more than 7,400 study centres across India and abroad. It is the largest open schooling system in the world, with over 4.13 million learners enrolled in the past five years.
NIOS has also recently launched its Virtual School, expanding access to digital learning.
What This Means for Brainiacs Students
Through NIOS, Brainiacs learners benefit from academic flexibility, personalised guidance, and mentorship while completing their Senior School education. They gain knowledge, practical skills, and critical thinking abilities, preparing them for higher education and beyond all within a supportive and structured learning environment.
Recognition and Opportunities
The NIOS qualification is fully recognised across all universities and colleges in India, holding the same standing as CBSE and ICSE. After completing Senior School (10+2) through NIOS, learners can appear for competitive exams such as JEE Main, JEE Advanced, and many others. NIOS certification is also accepted by prestigious institutions including IIMs and other top colleges.
At Brainiacs, students can complete their Senior School studies online while preparing for NIOS examinations as Private Candidates. Upon successfully passing the exams at a NIOS study centre, learners receive an official marksheet and certificate, just like any other board.
Courses Offered
Secondary (Grades 9-10) & Senior Secondary (Grades 11-12)
Learners at Brainiacs can pursue two-year NIOS courses. This approach provides flexibility, guidance, and nationally recognised credentials, empowering learners to pursue higher education or competitive exams without compromising on personalised support.
Secondary Course
Equivalent to Grade 10
Our Secondary Course is aligned with NIOS and provides a pathway equivalent to the 10th standard. At Brainiacs, students can choose subjects from a broad scheme of studies designed to match their interests and future goals.
To earn certification, learners must complete at least five subjects, including one compulsory language (with the option to take two). All Board Examinations are held at the end of the second year, giving students enough time to prepare thoroughly.
Senior Secondary Course
Equivalent to Grade 12
This course is designed for students who have completed Grade 10 or an equivalent qualification from a recognised board and wish to continue toward a Senior Secondary (12th standard) certification.
As with the Secondary level, Brainiacs learners can select their subjects from our curated scheme of studies. Certification requires the successful completion of a minimum of five subjects, including one or two languages as required. Board Examinations are conducted at the end of the second year, mirroring other recognized boards.
Admission Criteria & Entry Requirements
At Brainiacs, admissions to our Senior School programme follow the guidelines set by NIOS for their examinations. NIOS holds exams twice a year: April/May (Block 1) and October/November (Block 2).
NIOS offers four distinct registration streams, each designed to suit learners with different needs and learning preferences. At Brainiacs, students can choose the stream that best fits their goals, with the understanding that each learner may register in only one stream per examination cycle.
Assessment & Examinations at Brainiacs
At Brainiacs, we view learning as a continuous process, not just a set of exam scores. Our weekly internal assessments go beyond textbooks to measure understanding, critical thinking, and application of concepts.
To support board exam readiness, students have access to a comprehensive collection of sample question banks. Our Assessment Portal offers detailed analytics at both the unit and concept level, helping learners and facilitators identify areas of strength and focus on topics that need improvement.
Board Examinations through NIOS are conducted twice a year (April–May and October–November). To appear, learners must complete online registration and payment of examination fees directly to NIOS. At Brainiacs, we provide full guidance and support throughout this process, ensuring a smooth and stress-free experience.
Learning Resources at Brainiacs
Upon registration for NIOS examinations, learners receive a Learning Kit from NIOS. We also encourage students to acquire the recommended textbooks either from NIOS or other trusted sources.
At Brainiacs, all essential coursebooks and workbooks are available digitally on our Learning Platform at no additional cost, ensuring learners have easy, anytime access to study materials.
